San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore

San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore is a small, charming and welcoming village, characterized by tiers that suddenly open onto large areas that offer splendid views. The ancient nucleus, located on a hill overlooking the valley below, develops around the Farnese Castle and the Cathedral. Not to be missed is the Museum of Fossils and Ambers, which preserves a vast collection of fossils that tell the story of the last 500 million years of our planet and a precious collection of ambers. The museum is housed in the eighteenth-century Villa Olivieri de Cambacérès.

The museum is divided into two rooms and three sections: the paleontological room that includes the fossil section and the "man" section and the room of the ambers.

The Sanctuary of the Madonna dell' Elcina is located on a rocky hill, a short distance from the old town centre. The local stone church, in its present form, is recently built but of ancient foundation and has a remarkable historical, artistic and religious value for the whole valley.

It is one of the most spectacular and famous Celestinian Hermitages of Majella. The building stretches out in a dry landscape, under a rocky ridge that completely covers it, so much so that it camouflages in the rock.
